When “perfection” became her heaviest armor

Mandy was everyone’s “angel”—elegant, thoughtful, and endlessly giving. But inside, she felt cold and believed that “no one truly loves me.” She exhausted herself meeting everyone’s needs, leaving nothing for herself.

Tracing back to childhood, she remembered standing before her mother at age three or four, waiting for a hug that never came. Silently, she made a decision: “If I can’t be loved, then at least I must be useful.” From that moment, she became a “problem-solver.”

During practice, she saw that little girl craving love for the first time. She didn’t try to satisfy the craving, nor did she deny it—she simply watched it. Then she said softly to herself: “I see you. But I won’t run with you.”

In that moment, a quiet distance opened between herself and the one who desperately wanted to be loved. She finally understood: her worth lies not in being useful, but in simply being.
